Tempus Fugit, Salvage style

New arrival in the shop.

The 27th of March will mark my one year Etsyversary, and with only 5 items away from 100 sales I couldn't be happier. But I have been thinking...what's in a name? You see, originally I wanted to call my shop Sparrow Salvage, but I didn't realise that when you sign up to Etsy, your username is your shop name and it can't be changed. So I stayed with little brown sparrow. I named my blog sparrow salvage and left it at that.

But travelling along, I find I connect more with Sparrow Salvage as a name for what I do. Little Brown Sparrow I have become accustomed to as a name for me, since it has been my alter-ego moniker for some time -it's my Native American name, given to me by my mother at birth when a fat little sparrow alighted outside her hospital window moments after I was born. I'm not Native American, but it was a trifle of my mother's fancy and it stuck.

I registered the name sparrow salvage about a month ago, when I started to think about moving shops. I set up the new shop with categories (to represent a much expanded range) and a banner...and I intend to move there in the winter. About July, I would say. I only wish I could take my hearts and feedback with me, but alas!

I will still keep Little Brown Sparrow though, as a place for my art and photography...or as a faery shop. I'm as yet undecided on that.
This is the new logo (possibly) for Sparrow Salvage. I wanted the logo to be modern but ancient; Victorian, Medieval, rustic and simple all at once. I chose the winged hourglass on a bit of a whim...these past months I've been thinking about the idea of time- how we always seem to be wasting it, running out of it, killing it. The moments in your life that have passed you will never get back.

Me (on the left- nice pants!), my brother and my Dad. We're all so colour co-ordinated! Forget time, this is something you'll never get back- Dad in a purple cardigan.

I have an inner obsession with time- I'm terrible at managing it and can while away an hour in my head and have it only feel like 10 minutes. I'm always on at myself to stop buggering around and do something with my time, I'm never happy with what I've done with my day, always chiding myself I could've fit in more. I do get so easily distracted...

Anyway- I originally intended this graphic as a tattoo, but the more I look at this hourglass like a logo, it makes sense. I use remnants from time in my work (focusing on those which have the most markings of the Old Father on them), there will be a stage where I'll run out (antique textile is not in infinite supply!) and the wings are of course, the sparrow.

Tempus Fugit, kids. Go do something before it fugits out the window for good.

I love your new pieces and I love your new logo! I so understand about the name thing. Originally, my ex husband surprised me with a website for my art and chose the name "Art by Merle" because, well, that is my name. OK, my name is just so stupid! But, everyone got used to that, he then surprised me with "Art by Merle" business cards and all the rest and the dye was cast.

Then, he took off(boo!) and my younger sister, wanting to do something nice for me, surprised me by setting up an etsy store for me using 2 of the the things I love-my cat Pascal and my love of the colour Aqua so it became "pascal4aqua". This was so sweet, but made no since to me and I just didn't see how people who picked up my "art by merle" business card" at a show or went to my etsy store or websit could make the leap. So, on etsy, I am "pascal4aqua" by my banner reads "Art by Merle". It was the best I could do.

And, to make things even funnier, as a gift(yes! another one!)my brother in law and his brother are going to give my website a makeover and he asked me, "how attached are you to that name?". Ok, now I am laughing so hard! I should just totally change it all to something ridiculous-any suggestions? Seriously! Hee!
And, I love the stories of your names!

p.s. stop by my blog and pick up a little award-it is the blog that has yet another name not related to anything!

Yes, exactly! That is such a constant refrain for me.

Btw, your blog is beautiful and I was flattered to find it because you linked my photos. Thank you.
