To London-town

London-town postcard set

For every person there is a place where they truly feel they belong- my place is England. Having been there for a total of no more than 8 weeks in my life, I can confidently say that it is where I am meant to be, and one day will be. London is the crown of England's majesty- a place where history is stacked perilously like wooden blocks. Holes in the road show 300 year old cobbles, trees grow softly in parks where mass plague victims sleep, and ancient china shards clink against blitz rubble on the banks of the Thames. I believe London to be less a city and more an ancient, occult creature, one so easily captured in symbol as in snapshot.

Here I am, in the middle of London, reading your post and thinking what an excellent and evocative description of the place. Come to London!

Yes, London is truly a gorgeous and inspiring city - full of contrasts and paradox. We moved 180 miles away a few years ago now, to a rural location and where house prices were more affordable. But we still miss it passionately; the history, the theatres and museums. Your words capture its many 'faces' beautifully. thank you!

I almost made it to London back in the day, things happened and the trip was canceled, even had my passport...sigh...so much history on that little island and I long to take it all in...some day!

I set foot in London at age 20 with 2 suitcases and a shared flat. I was there for a semester. I was immediately at home. Never have a felt more of a "fit" between myself and a place. Never had I felt so creative, and alive, and "right".

I have been back on my honeymoon at age 28, and for my 40th birthday. Its never enough, but it feeds my soul...
